Welcome to the online component for your faith formation! After each class, you will have a month to visit the Student Page to listen, watch, and read materials based on what you learned. These mini-sessions are meant to build upon what you learned in class, and give you tools to continue to grow deeper in your faith.
In each section, you will find:
- LEARN MORE: This section summarizes what we learned, and gives you additional information that builds upon what we learned, either through a video or an article.
- SAINT PROFILES: In this section, you will explore the lives of different saints and learn how they followed Christ through their words and actions. As you read each saint profile, consider the virtues they practiced, the challenges they faced, and what lessons their lives can teach us today. The goal is to discover role models of faith and reflect on how their example can inspire your own life.
- HOMEWORK: In this section you will find the homework that touches on the topics covered in class along with the information shared here. Please complete your homework assignments in the Google Form at the bottom of each section. If you have any trouble, have your parents email me at

In class, we defined and discussed the word vocation, which is God’s calling on our hearts for our lives. This call is not an obligation, but rather an invitation from God to be who we truly are in freedom! Our vocation doesn’t just help us, but is also a blessing to the world. God has given us unique gifts and talents meant to serve the world and His Kingdom. God has given each of us a unique mission and calling because only we can do it — God wants and needs us!
Yet, it is hard to see our talents and gifts as unique when we’re constantly looking and listening to others and not God. Whether you’re looking at a classmate or listening to an influencer on social media, comparing yourself leaves you distracted to who God called you to be, and makes it pretty hard to hear Him. Saint Profiles: Saint Francis de Sales
Middle school students can relate to Saint Francis de Sales because many of the challenges he addressed—friendships, emotions, communication, and personal growth—are similar to what young people experience today.
Here are some connections:
Being kind in a world that isn't always kind. Saint Francis de Sales believed that gentleness was a strength, not a weakness. Middle school students can practice responding to classmates with patience, avoiding gossip, and treating others with respect.
Not giving up after mistakes. He taught that everyone makes mistakes and that what matters is getting back up and trying again. This can encourage students who struggle with grades, sports, friendships, or making good choices.
Using words wisely. Known as the patron saint of writers and journalists, he emphasized communicating truth with kindness. This is especially relevant today with texting, social media, and group chats, where words can have a big impact.
Growing one step at a time. He believed holiness isn't about being perfect overnight. Middle school students can relate to setting small goals, such as being more patient, helping at home, or spending a few minutes in prayer each day.
Including others. Saint Francis de Sales treated people with compassion, even when they disagreed with him. Students can follow his example by welcoming new classmates, standing up for someone who is left out, or being a good friend.
Balancing school, family, and faith. He taught that people can grow closer to God while doing their everyday responsibilities. Students can see homework, chores, sports, and family life as opportunities to practice responsibility and love.
