Career Resources Ministry

The Career Resources Ministry of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (OLMC) in Ridgewood, New Jersey welcomes you. We are a ministry that is free and open to all; regardless of affiliation, who are anticipating unemployment or are already unemployed. Those who have attended prior sessions are welcome to return. Please have your materials with you for the ZOOM meeting.

Because of Covid restrictions, all sessions this year will be virtual and by Zoom. As is inherent in using zoom, your name and/or phone number will be on the screen.

Our Ministry helps people seeking employment through a series of four workshops. Our aim is to provide the job seeker with the tools and encouragement to find a new position.

Include your name and email address. A confirmation will be sent to you with material pick up instructions, the Zoom link and the password.

Our sessions will be as follows:

• Session 1-Create Your Communications Strategy and Resume.

• Part 1: Sunday, February 28, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
• Part 2: Sunday, March 7, from 1:00pm to 5:00 pm

A good communication strategy assures that the key qualifications and assets you possess will support your objective. Written and verbal ways to achieve this will be discussed. Strategies will include written qualification statements, accomplishment statements, and resume writing.

Because there is so much material to cover, this topic will be discussed over two meetings.

Session 2-Define Your Target Market
• Sunday, March 21 from 1 :00 pm to 5:00 pm

Learning how to clearly and logically define your target market allows you to focus on specific organizations and ensures that you waste little time finding appropriate new employment. Staying focused with realistic goals can shorten your employment search by weeks, and even months. Professionals will also help with questions following the presentation. Please bring along your most recent resume or job summary information.

Session 3-Get Your Message Out- Networking
• Sunday, April 18 from 1 :00 pm to 5:00 pm

Getting the message out about who you are and what you have to offer to people who are likely to hire you is at the heart of the job search process. This technique is often referred to as Networking. Please have your most recent resume or job summary information available for the meeting.

Session 4-lnterview, Cultivate Offers and Negotiate
• Sunday, May 2 from 1 :00 pm to 5:00 pm

Every discussion with a hiring manager should be considered an interview. Your role in the discussion is to position your skills, talents and experience as a solution to the challenges they face in their organization. Your task is to cultivate an offer by helping the hiring manager see you in that role, and eventually make you an offer.

*All time frames allow for a fifteen-minute break and lingering questions at the end.

What is the registration deadline?
Please allow four business days before the session you are attending. Once you register that gives us time to get the materials to the rectory for you to pick up.
