Dear Friends,

Happy fall, and pumpkin and apple pickin' and Halloween and sparkling days and chilly nights and busy calendars, even in the pandemic. And, let's hope and pray, a decline in the delta variant and Covid in general, locally, in the US and around the world.

As I said, fall is the time for busy calendars. And here are some events of ours that I want to remind you about.

-This Sunday evening, 10/3, at 6:00PM at St. Luke's, Ho-Ho-Kus there will be a Special Eucharistic Prayer Service for the success of the Archdiocesan initiative, Vine & Branches, to lead us to a deeper appreciation of the Eucharist and our connection with one another. All are invited. For more information, see the blurb in today's bulletin.

-This Wednesday, 10/6, from 5:00PM-9:00PM in the church-Angels in the Pews, a powerful exhibit of lives lost to addiction. As I said last week, with the Covid pandemic facing us every day, we may have forgotten that there is another epidemic gripping our society-the addiction epidemic, with thousands of lives lost to it each year. Come and see some of their stories and let them "speak back" to you. I especially encourage our high schoolers and their parents, especially the present seniors who will face the temptations of addictions as they head off to college next year.

-Continuing on the calendar, Sunday, 10/10 is the annual Block Party, from 1:30PM-5:00PM, in the parking lot behind the Religious Ed. Center. With the weather turning chillier, it's doubtful there will be a dunk tank (and maybe because of the pastor's advanced age), but there will be more games and of course, plenty of food. And everything is free. It's a chance to celebrate, outdoors, ourselves, to reconnect with those we've not seen in a while and maybe to be the start of a return to a more normal experience of church and community and the kick-off of Reengaging Christ In Our Community. Come and join us, maybe even trying the 12:30PM Mass first.

-Moving along in the calendar to October 15, there is the Academy of Our Lady 1923 Society Gala, at 7:00PM at the Women's Club of Ridgewood. The date, 1923, was chosen because it was the year of the founding of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, which merged with St. Catharine's School and eventually became the Academy of Our Lady. The Gala supports and enhances the mission of the Academy. This year, the honorees are the retiring pastor of St. Catharine, Fr. Tom Wisnewski, and Michele DiPiano, a parishioner of Mount Carmel who recently retired after thirty years of service to the Academy. Please support this event as a way of keeping alive the mission of that original Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. If you are a graduate of that school, help to keep its mission alive and well by participating in this event. More information is elsewhere in this bulletin.

I think that's enough for now.

God Bless,
Fr. Ron
