Fr. Ron's Blog

Dear Friends,

It's been a long haul, but we're finally in the homestretch. This weekend will mark the last three of our 1 Communion Masses, two on Saturdayand the final one at the 11:OOAM Mass on Sunday. When completed we will have celebrated this special moment in the lives of 11O now third graders. 37 families have chosen to wait until next spring. I congratulate all 11O children and their families and say a big thank you for waiting so long for this moment, and for keeping your children anxiously awaiting reception of this great gift of Jesus in the Sacrament of His Body and Blood.

Next weekend, October 2ndand 3rd, we will celebrate the last of our eight confirmation ceremonies for the 157 high schoolers who should have been confirmed last May. 11 have chosen to wait until next year. In advance, I congratulate them and their families for their commitment to receive this Sacrament in spite of the delay. Both the 1stcommunicants and the newly confirmed are witnesses to us that even in the face of extraordinary obstacles, faith still lives in the hearts and lives of the parish family of Mount Carmel. We should all be encouraged by their witness to hunger for the day when we can live our faith to the fullest, sharing in the Eucharist, gathering together as a family in the same way we did before this pandemic struck. Don't give up on the hope that God will see us through this and lead us to a brighter tomorrow. As I write this, it's the Feast of St. Pius, better remembered as Padre Pio, the saint who bore the stigmata, the wounds of Christ. Many people flocked to him as a confessor and spiritual director. He often ended his time with them with the same words - "pray, hope and don't worry." As Covid drags on, may we take those words to heart. And may we continue to be encouraged by the faith of one another.

Be well, be safe and God Bless,
Fr. Ron
