The Case for Life in the Face of Death

May 8, 2008

This lecture will discuss the spirituality of accepting declining health, physical limitations and suffering; preparing for the process of dying and the event of death; and living an authentic Christian outlook toward death. It will address the following questions:

What is the Christian understanding of suffering and death?

How do we face death with Christian hope?


How to Make the Right Medical Decision

May 15, 2008

Participants will contemplate the ethics of end of life decision making, using the Church’s teachings as an indispensable guide to navigating the maze of ethical issues. The lecture will explore our Christian understanding of true human dignity – that we are created in God’s image as the stewards, not the absolute owners, of our gift of life.

The following questions will be addressed:

What is the Christian choice in medical decisions?

How do we entrust our medical care to God’s plan?

 

Witnessing for the Defense (of Life): the Law and the End of Life Decisions

May 22, 2008

Participants will gain insight into the legal considerations at the end of life; patient rights, advance directives and statutory concerns; and understanding natural law and its application to man-made law. This lecture will address the following questions:

How do we follow God’s law at the end of life?

How do we weigh the moral implications of our legal decisions?
