There will be NO CONFESSIONS this coming Monday, February 18, 2019 (Presidents' Day)

Dear Friends,
Happy Father’s Day to all our dads.

God bless all our dads on their special day and thank you for who you are. As a gift from the parish, please take a mini flashlight with you (if they've come in) and know how much the light of your faith contributes not only to your family but to the parish family as well.

I may fail to be as clever as my neighbor down the street,
I may fail to be as wealthy as some other men I meet,
I may never win the glory which a lot of men have had,
But I’ve got to be successful as a little fellow’s dad.
There are certain dreams I cherish which I’d like to see come true,
There are things I would accomplish when my time of life is through,
But the task my heart is on is to guide a little lad
And to make myself successful as that little fellow’s dad.
I may never come to glory, I may never gather gold,
Men may list me with the failures when my business life is told,
But if he who follows after me shall be manly, I’ll be glad,
For I’ll know I’ve been successful as that little fellow’s dad.
It’s the one job that I dream of, it’s the task I think of most,
If I fail that growing youngster, I’d have nothing else to boast;
For though wealth and fame I’d gathered, all my failure would be sad,
If I failed to be successful as that little fellow’s dad.

Congratulations to the class of 2018 of the Academy of Our Lady, who graduated yesterday. We wish you all God’s blessings as you go on to the high schools of your choice. I know that you are well prepared for this next step in your lives. In your academics, in your social life as a member of a school community, and in your spiritual life, the Academy has helped form you as a witness to Jesus Christ. I pray that you will always remember that – to see the world through the eyes of Jesus, to allow the wisdom of Jesus to guide your decisions and choices and to reflect the image of Jesus in a world that is so desperately in need of goodness, kindness, gentleness, justice and respect for one another. And may you be all of that, joyfully appreciating all the good around you. And remember – God created you to be happy, even as He asks you to bear fruit for His Kingdom.

Finally, this will be my last regular column for the summer. What I do plan to do is either (a) put in some of the thoughts of Pope Francis, taken from his weekly audiences, or (b) do a little extended reflection on the Sunday readings. But no guarantee of either. The space might just be some “filler.” Everyone needs a break – me from writing and you from reading.

With summer officially starting on Thursday – HAPPY SUMMER, EVERYBODY.
God bless,
Fr. Ron
